Possible wind issues with weekend swell
Just a quick update on the weekend swell: Models are showing that low mentioned in my last SwellScan.com report (below) moving down the coast Saturday into Sunday, and another before it as well. It looks like both lows will have some kind of impact on the winds this weekend when that southern hemi swell arrives. I'm going to wait until this afternoon's model run before making the call. I'll have a video report posted by this evening, and then in my WetSand.com report Thursday morning.

Swell Scan Feb 6, 2009
Here's a look at what's happening across the Pacific to bring swell to California. Looks like a lot of wind swell on the horizon, and possibly something for the 13th, although models aren't optimistic about it right now.

Swell is headed to California, but it's not looking pretty. Lots of wind swell is on the way, as well as ground swell from Japan and the Aleutians. I've changed the video format to use YouTube, so please let me know if you encounter any problems viewing.

Pacific Analysis Jan. 30, 2009
Here's a quick scan at what's going on across the Pacific. Two primary storms of interest, one for swell (but possible weather) on Thursday the 5th, and the other a more significant WNW swell off Japan with an ETA right now for the 8th.

* I started a new forecasting forum/message board for discussions, posts, etc. You can access the group by clicking here. You can join/post at the group's site; however, if you don't have a GMail account, you can join the group by sending a blank email to:
surf-forecasting-subscribe@googlegroups.com
...and post (or reply to posts) via email to the group (once you join):
surf-forecasting@googlegroups.com
Among the topics are a couple new posts and pages regarding omega and rex blocks. You can see those new pages on the blocking patterns here.
* If you haven't had a chance yet to take the surf survey, I'd really love to hear your feedback. I'm gathering as much data as I can to determine what kind of forecasts/services you'd like, and if I can't provide them here or in my forecasting group, then I'll present this to the new owners of WetSand (Sportnet/WMG).
